At some point in our lives as humans, we're bound to feel bothered about not meeting up to standards, bothered about what others think about us, lack confidence and constantly compare ourselves to others and this is what is referred to as "Inferiority Complex".ย People with inferiority complex have the tendency to withdraw from people, become asocial, see themselves as failures, and avoid challenges because of fear of failure. The question now is "Is Inferiority complex curable"? Well, the good news is that "It is".ย Here are five (5) strategies you can use to overcome Inferiority complex:
STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT OTHERS SAY/THINK
This is one of the major problems of people with an inferiority complex, they are always bothered about what others will think or say. Stop seeking validation from others, and dissociate yourself from their views. It's the ultimate opinion about yourself that matters. Let people accept you for that.
BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE
Be knowledgeable about who you are, what you're worth and learn to embrace that! Know that the problem isn't you. Ohhh, you had an unsuccessful interview? Then move unto the next. Did your friend cancel at the last minute? It is what it is! Did you make a mistake? Not much of a big deal! These situations shouldn't let you feel Inferior. Think about what each situation made you learn and get yourself together and focus on the next thing, that's self-confidence!
SELF-TALK
Encourage yourself always with positive self-talk. People with Inferiority complex tend to always speak negatively about themselves but this shouldn't be. Learn to use good words to yourself, and praise yourself positively.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO UPLIFT YOU
Most times, it's the people around you that cause you to feel Inferior like your friends, colleagues, siblings, relatives, etc. It's important to realize those who make you feel Inferior and distance yourself from them for sanity's sake. However, you need to be intentional about surrounding yourself with people who uplift you also, people who bring out the better version of you.
DO YOU!
You can put inferiority complex in its place (i.e out of mind and out of sight) when you focus on the things you have and not what others have. You have so much good in your life that when you look for it, you will find and appreciate it so well that inferiority complex can't even stay in you any longer.
