What's this world without social media today? Social media has gradually gained popularity over time and it's here to stay. It is solely used to connect, relate, and network. With social media, people can socially engage with one another on the internet thanks to the proliferation of social networking platforms and applications. Social media apps have increased in number over time and you can now easily choose the one that suits your taste and personality. However, despite the various apps available, there are some popular ones used by Nigerians. If you are a Nigerian, you should be on one or two of the apps I will be highlighting below.

Most used social media apps in Nigeria

1. WhatsApp: WhatsApp is now the most popular messaging app. This app is well designed and allows you to converse with people via text messages, videos, pictures, voice chats, etc. WhatsApp has made it easy and flexible to communicate with family and friends all over the globe. Features like "auto-replies" where you can easily interact with your customers and better manage your time, you can also update your catalog with available goods and services, which can make the ordering process swift and easy, and you can also include your working days and opening hours and many more. With these features and many more, WhatsApp has now been embraced by a large number of people in Nigeria. 

2. Instagram: Instagram is a fantastic social networking platform. It is popularly known as a photo and video-sharing platform. It's the best social media platform for influencers, content creators, bloggers, business owners, and corporations. Instagram is great for businesses or companies trying to grow their reach and improve their awareness. Instagram features like reels, captions, IG stories, hashtags, etc can help in reaching a larger audience. Instagram features work effectively and they attain their goal. 

3. Twitter: Talk about the most interesting, intriguing, and engaging app, then talk about Twitter. Twitter is one of the most used apps in Nigeria by youths. With Twitter, you can reach a large audience through tweets and retweets, connect with like minds, and form relationships with other users. On Twitter, messages are restricted to 280 characters or less but that's enough to share pictures, links, ideas, or breaking news. Twitter is the best place for texting, blogging, and putting out your own opinion. Twitter is known to be a wild social media site as there are so many audiences with their thoughts and facts and this can sometimes lead to negative comments and trolling on the net. 

4. Facebook: Facebook is that place you can easily connect with acquaintances, colleagues, family, and friends both in your past and present life. Facebook is largely used to share pictures, videos, news, stories, etc. Facebook is also an effective platform to promote businesses, events, and products. It also helps its users find communities/ groups of people with the same interests and preferences. 

5. Linkedln: This is one of the popular professional social networking sites. LinkedIn provides a platform to connect and network with people of the same professional interest as you. You can also upgrade your CV, get new jobs, share ideas, recruit capable workers, etc. With Linkedln, you can share information about your company, news, upcoming events, and all. The perfect place to post anything related to your profession or business is LinkedIn as it is ideal for meeting customers, connecting with vendors, hiring new job seekers, keeping up with the newest business news, and also helping you and your company grow.

6. TikTok: Tiktokers in Nigeria are rising rapidly each day. TikTok is an app used to share short videos. TikTok allows its users to make short videos with music, filters, and other effects just to express themselves in their way. Anybody can become a content creator on TikTok as it's easy to use and mostly for entertainment.  

7. YouTube: YouTube is an app that has videos for everything ranging from music videos to movies, tutorials, news, etc. YouTube is Nigeria's most popular video hosting site. YouTube is available to everyone, you can post according to your preference or niche and both long and short video content can perform well on it.
