With the various distractions and activities in the world right now, time management has become a struggle for many of us. We are either distracted by social media, cell phone messages, emails, or the environment we find ourselves in. This has made time management harder to achieve. I've come to notice that a lot of us need to know how to manage our time each day to achieve all we need to either in our work, business, academics, or personal life. If you are struggling with time management, here are a few helpful tips to help you get started in managing your time well:
1. Set reminders for all your tasks: Setting reminders will help you a lot. Most times we are so caught up wasting unnecessary time on activities we enjoy and neglect that which we ought to do. But once a reminder is set, even though you're lost in an unnecessary activity, the reminder will bring you back on track. You can set reminders on your phone alarm, your calendar, sticky notes on your wall, etc. This way you can keep up with all you need to do. It's important to set reminders a day before the event or a few minutes before the event so you can prepare and gather all you need to.
2. Create a daily planner: Planning out my day is one of the ways I've been able to practice time management. When I wake up, I write out all I need to do in the day on my notepad, sometimes a day before. This way, I get to remember all I need to do and leave nothing out. You should implement this too in your daily life. Plan out what you want to achieve daily and as you complete each task, you can tick it done ✅.
- PRO TIP: Make sure to keep a small notebook nearby while working or doing an activity in your daily task. Why? Because you might suddeny remember another task you need to get done (ohhhhh, I'm yet to pay to my electricity bill! Ohhhh, i need to send a mail to my client!). In a situation like this, jot it down immediately in order not to forget again.
3. Give each task a time limit: Since we're talking about time management then you should know that you can't waste time at all. For every task you want to do, set a time limit to it. This way you won't waste unnecessary time on it. You know, we have just 24 hours in a day, you can't be using 2 hours to wash plates, Nah! Pen in how much time you think each task will take you. If by chance you didn't finish your task within the time you allocated to it, you can leave it and come back to it later. Sometimes moving on to different responsibilities can give you fresh ideas to come back later and complete that particular task you left.
4. Block out distractions: Anything you know that will distract you from managing your time as you should, avoid it! If you know your phone, social media, email notification, etc will distract you from doing that which you ought to, then block it away. You can put your phone far from you or put it in silent mode. Don't be tempted to press it, be disciplined! Make sure you're not distracted! Stay focused!
5. Establish a routine: Establish a routine and stick to it as this will help you not to procrastinate. A routine helps you to get things done. Even when your day is going chaotic, with a planned out routine, you will walk through the issue while still adhering to your routine. Your mental health and stress levels will even thank you for it.
