Creating a healthy lifestyle and maintaining it isn't just about eating healthy and doing exercise, it's more about keeping a positive attitude, strong mental health, and a healthy self-image. Today, there are tons of advice out there on how to keep a healthy lifestyle, however, in today's blog post, I'd share key factors on how to live a healthy lifestyle and maintain your overall well-being.
How to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle
1. Limit unhealthy foods and eat healthy meals: You need to balance your eating diet. Do not skip breakfast, choose a nutritious meal with more proteins, fiber, and less fat, sugar, and calories. Also, avoid processed foods. Most nutritional value is lost in the making of processed foods and the added preservatives are bad for our health. Eat more fruits and vegetables as they contain vitamins and minerals which are essential to your staying healthy.
2. Drink more water: Drinking water regularly will keep you hydrated and healthy. Most of us don't drink enough water every day, but we need it to make our bodies work properly. The amount of water we need depends on various factors but generally, an average adult needs two to three liters a day. Make sure you are drinking safe and clean water. In case you are in an environment where you are unsure of your water source, you should boil your water for one minute and allow it cool naturally before taking it.
3. Exercise regularly and be physically active: Take 30 minutes each day to exercise your body. You can start with mini workouts like jogging, squatting, Yoga, etc. Regular exercises will lower your risk of disease, create higher bone density and potentially increase your life span.
4. Get enough good sleep: Get seven to eight hours of sleep each night as this will help your immune system function properly.
5. Have regular checkups: Regular checkups can help you find your health problems even before they start. Make it a habit to always do checkups with your doctor at least once every month.
6. Avoid smoking: Smoking is bad for the health. If you are a smoker, quit it so that you can have better health--- not just for yourself, but for your friends and family. If you don't smoke, stay that way.
7. Nurture your social relationships: Social relationships with your family, friends and loved ones are very important as they will not only improve your mental health but also your physical health. People who have close friends and family have tendencies of living longer and healthier than those who do not.
