Lade is a single mum with three kids. She's a nurse in a private institution earning a salary monthly. Unfortunately, her salary isn't sustaining the family any longer and this is a result of the country's economy. Lade is now seeking for an extra job to support her hustle and income. Then one day, she thought to herself, "I can take up a side hustle and start earning more money" she said. However, she's clueless on which side hustle to embark on. Then she went online and read on side hustle. What is side hustle and which Top 5 side hustles should one know?
Side Hustle?
A side hustle is a job you take to support your income, most times because your primary source of income isn't enough for you.
Top 5 side hustle you should know:
There are numerous side hustles one can start immediately if skilled and if not, can start getting skilled up. However, here are the top 5 side hustles you should know that are lucrative and easy to combine with any primary work you're doing:
1. Become a virtual assistant: Being a virtual assistant is one of the best side hustles to engage in and even start earning at the beginning of the work. Today, many business owners, executives, brand managers and other busy people often hire a virtual assistant to help with some of their day-to-day tasks. These tasks can vary from scheduling meetings and trips, booking hotels, answering emails, making appointments etc. The beautiful thing about the virtual assistant job is that you can work remotely (i.e you can work from home or any of your comfort zone). To become a virtual assistant, all you need is to get skilled, find clients and send out your first invoices after starting the work.
2. Tutoring: Tutoring is a side hustle idea that's lucrative. If one is very good in a major academic subject like Mathematics, English, etc, then tutoring is s great side hustle to be involved in. You can earn per hour or per day or per month depending on the subject being taught and the type of student being taught. All you need to do is develop a lesson plan and find interested students through social media, word of mouth, newspaper ads, local ads, etc.
3. Blogging: This is the side hustle idea that I chose. I began blogging here at abbeyspace.com even while working for other institutions. Blogging has a learning technique and you have to read vast and wide to get acquainted with it. However, blogging is more of a long-term side hustle and mostly doesn't generate more income in the first year of doing it but between 2-4 years with consistency.
If you would like to start a blog, I will recommend that you have a "Niche" (i.e a specific area(s) of concentration). If you're looking to get paid quickly, I wouldn't advise you to pick blogging as a side hustle. You can earn in six figures with time especially when you choose a great niche, execute well and stay consistent.
4. YouTube: Just like blogging, YouTube is also more of a long-term side hustle idea. Earning as a YouTuber comes with having many subscribers and a growing channel so it needs consistency. Through this, you can become brand ambassadors for different brands/products where you get paid based on your deal with the company. You can also earn through ad revenue, which YouTube splits with you when people view your videos. You must consistently upload valuable and engaging content that will draw in more subscribers and quicken your earnings.
5. Translation: If you can speak and write accurately in more than one language then this is for you. You could offer translation services as your side hustle. We have several businesses that need their business documents, contracts, ideas and many more translated. So you have to be really skilled in it before taking a job on it because it entails knowing the language in-depth. Earning money is determined by how fast you get your clients. And thankfully today, we have various websites you can find clients, for example, freelancer.com, upwork.com, LinkedIn, etc. These sites are the freelance marketplaces for all sorts of professional services.
